ESG is a recent standard being used to rate a company’s sustainability and ethical protocols (Environmental, Social and Governance.) About 500 large companies are rated using these criteria. Within that 500 companies are the paint manufacturers, who must develop low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint that is safe for your home and those inside.

Criteria for being included in an ESG ranking includes a company’s

• use of renewable energy sources
• its waste management program
• how it handles potential problems of air or water pollution arising from its operations
• deforestation issues (if applicable)
• and its attitude and actions around climate change issues
